Will Windows laptops ever get retina displays? Is it technically possible?

I ask this because of the way Windows scales. In OSX on a retina display, each single pixel is scaled up to 4 pixels which essentially means that even though the display is much sharper the resolution remains the same (the 2560x1600 display on a rMBP 13" displays 1280x800 resolution).

On Windows, as resolution size increases the content just becomes tinier. So is a retina display possible for Windows laptops? Or have we reached the upper edge of sharpness ala 1080p displays?
