Should Microsoft make Xbox Fitness? (UPDATED)

We already have Xbox Music, Xbox Video, and Xbox Smartglass. I can't help but wonder if Microsoft should make Xbox Fitness.

The best way I can think of it goes a little something like this:

  1. We all understand how someone's Xbox gamerscore works. Now imagine an Xbox FitScore.
  2. Now build a simple, run-tracking, Xbox Fitness app for Windows Phone (ideally iOS and Android too).
  3. Now build apps for Windows 8 and Xbox that sync your stats, show Bing maps of runs, compare with friends, etc.
  4. Now open up FitScore to other developers to incorporate into their apps/games. Imagine Dance Central and other physically demanding games giving FitScore points to players based on how long they play.

The only reason I can think of to not do this is out of worry of offending Nike or other fitness app developers, but I think they pros outweigh the cons.

This would also go a long way to making people think about Xbox as more of a lifestyle brand than a gaming brand, which is clearly what Microsoft wants to do.

Good idea? Bad idea? What do you think?

Just updating to brag a little bit and see what people think now that Microsoft has announced Xbox Fitness. The Xbox One app looks pretty impressive, but I haven't seen anything about ideas 2-4 listed above. Has anyone heard anything about expanding Xbox Fitness beyong just Xbox One?

In my opinion, these are the kinds of things that Microsoft should focus on - value adding services that are more about lifestyle than productivity.
