So excited to be getting my Hackintosh parts in today!
I was considering waiting for some new Apple announcements before making a decision, I decided I'm already completely happy with my iPad 3, MBA 2012, and iPhone 5. I gave it some thought and finally came to the conclusion that it'd be sweet to build a more powerful (yet still compact) rig for video editing and games.
Since the MBA doesn't exactly have the ideal disk space to dual boot with Windows, the Hackintosh was decidedly the next step. Though I love the new iMacs, the 27" was the only one I really wanted, but could not justify the price tag, at least for now.
Newegg says my parts will be delivered today and I didn't know I'd be this eager to build a PC from scratch again. The last time I did it was probably back in 2006. Eventually I got sick of building them and made my way into Apple territory with my first Macbook Pro.
Now, I'm ready for a better OSX experience. Granted, OSX on my MBA is absolutely fantastic, so I guess the thought of using it on an even more capable system is what excites me the most. Catching up with PC games I've been missing out on trails behind, not too far away.
I wanted to keep the build as compact as possible with as much power as possible within my budget ( ≧ $900 ) so what I came up with was this:
- Gigabyte GA-Z77N-WIFI Mini-ITX Mobo
- i5 3570K CPU
- 16GB 1600Mhz RAM
- Zotac GeForce GTX 660 (smallest possible GPU that will fit into case)
- Jonsbo V3Plus-B Case
the parts are taken from here to maximize compatibility, but I switched out a few parts to save a few more bucks and match what I wanted aesthetically.
I was really impressed with the quality of the V3Plus case and it was only $60!
I can post more photos as soon as I'm done with it all if anyone is interested. But man, I can't wait to test this thing out. If all goes well, perhaps I may consider building a REAL beast sometime in the near future.
