Content curation apps for iOS
I'm just gonna say it - I care neither for Google Reader (and RSS as a whole, in general), nor it's impending demise.
It's pretty sweet for that occasional low-density blog you come across, - which are getting increasingly rare to find, I must add - but personally, RSS for content has otherwise not made one bit of sense to me.
It seems akin to ordering over a dozen newspapers to me. You end up with truckloads of content, most of which happens to the same content you'd find in any one of those alone. There's always the chance that you'd end up missing out on that rare great piece buried amongst the pile of news you've gone through already.Plus, I'm kinda OCD about having 300,000+ unread articles like many showed off on Twitter after the announcement of Reader's death. The 17 unread articles I have in Pocket as of now are close to the limit of what I can bear.
Everything said and done, content curation has always made more sense to me.
I've been using Flipboard since I first heard of it about a year-and-a-half ago, but of late, it's getting kinda irritating to me. The 'Apps' section is heavily dominated by this one website called AppPicker, which adds tons of articles about free and discounted apps on a daily basis. The 'Technology' sections barely gets one article every hour or two. Most of the new articles under 'Apple News' end up getting buried under a wall of articles I'd gone through the last time. Suffice it to say, that although in terms of speed, Flipboard is doing great of late, it's content is not that great anymore, in my eyes, at least.
So, I tried Circa, which is apparently the most taxing/ worst coded app ever, as it makes my iPod touch (4th-gen) lag worse than Asphalt 7 and Infinity Blade.
Twitter seemed like a great way to go then. Quite a few people suggested it. Also, with Tweetbot, the Readability viewing mode really seemed (and is) better than Flipboard's inconsistent UI, which some do, and some do not follow.
But the problems RSS faces show up here too. Here's a screenshot from a couple days ago when the news about the WWDC announcement had just broken. (I don't have the original screenshot, and Twitter is only letting me download it as a .png which isn't getting embedded correctly here, hence the link)
And this isn't the full thing. There were about a hundred more - I kid you not - tweets about the same topic, Interlaced with that must've been a few on other topics, but I didn't really have the time to browse through them.
Also, I've used Prismatic for a while, and although in general, the news fares better than on Flipboard, it keeps on giving me random links from Indonesian sites, and gives me stuff from a couple of years ago. Also, since it has only one topic named 'Windows', I end up with quite a few stories about windows panes.
So, that's about it. I'm looking for a content curation app for iOS, and those are the ones I've tried. Any suggestions?
EDIT: I also forgot: Pocket integration is a necessity for me. If not that, then at least Readability or Instapaper, and I can reroute all the stuff to Pocket via IFTTT in that case.
