Quick question about CIS...
Hey guys. I'm currently a Senior Year student in a specialized school of Media in Puerto Rico, and as of now, I'm currently accepted in one of the biggest colleges around these parts: The University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras Precinct to study Computer Information Systems.
I'm FASCINATED by computers. I've lived with them all my life, really. But I've never had a break to experiment with programming, networking, and many other things on my own. However, I'm a very fast learner, so I'm not worried.
My main concern is that I've been doing some Googling, and I couldn't help but notice that the IT world is very, VERY aggressive. I've kept reading up on horrific stories of folks who have studied Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or CIS Bachelor Degrees who have been unemployed for years just because they don't have enough certs and experience vs other folks. Hell, sometimes they end up working for Domino's Pizza Delivery and everything.
I'm really concerned, because I really would love to study this field, but seeing as how it's seeming to be a very aggressive field right now, I'm not sure if should keep studying for a diploma that will serve for nothing but just toilet paper. Any tips or advice? I'm thinking of studying Law after finishing my Bachelor's if that's any help.
Many thanks in advance, all.
