Is Microsoft holding Nokia back? Should ideas Asha be in Windows Phone? YES.

I read an interesting article in ZDnet today asserting that Nokia is being held back by Microsoft's lack of speedy innovation in Windows Phone. As examples, Miller talks about the great camera apps that Nokia continues to push out at a speedy pace.

Then I saw a Nokia Youtube video showing designer Peter Skillman demonstrate the new Asha software which runs on Nokia's lower end line. I was really impressed with the ideas and implementation.

- Fast Lane stream which combines notifications, calendar and multi-tasking

- smart gestures baked into the OS and the lock screen to directly take action on notifications (like on iPhone).

- two touch SIM switching

- switch keyboard languages while typing.

As a 920 owner, I wish I had some of the productivity features in Asha, yesterday. Microsoft needs to get off its ass.
