Xbox Live Gold is the Xbox One's biggest strength and weakness

After this morning's announcement, I can't help but think about Xbox Live Gold. It is, undoubtedly, a great service. I have gladly paid for it for years, and had little or no problems on the service. In my opinion, it provides the best online console experience.

At the same time, I can't help but consider it when deciding between an Xbox One and a PS4. If I plan on keeping an Xbox One for a decade, I am looking at another $500+ on top of the purchase price to be able to fully enjoy the console. That is significant.

I wonder how many others are out there, like me, wondering what to do. Should I switch to a PS4 for the next gen or should I plug my nose and buy another Gold subscription? It's a tough call. Hopefully E3 provides some more clarity.
