Is it just me or can Google just not get Play Music right?
Don't get me wrong, the new app is great. I've started using instant mixes way more. I never realized how awesome they were. But with every update, it seems like there are a handful of things that Google does that just confuses the hell out of me. I'll stick to this update but I feel like these little nuances are present in some form from update to update.
- Why did they move the equalizer back to the global settings?! Different music calls for different EQ, so why would they move it from the most practical location (menu overflow on now playing screen) to one that is a bit more cumbersome to access? You would think that the most appropriate time to adjust the EQ is after you've made your music selection, in which you would be on the now playing screen, ready to adjust the EQ to the sound. This isn't a terrible issue but they went from global settings to menu overflow, back to global settings. Why?
- What have they done with the album art?! Now it is zoomed and pans from side to side causing significant parts of the art to be cutoff at all times. Not to mention how pixelated some of it can get. Looks terrible. How is this a better way to view art? I have art at 500 by 500 pixels or greater on all my music and 90% of it looks ridiculous in the new app on the now playing screen.
- This ties in with #2, what's up with the artist art? Don't get me wrong I think it's a great idea and really adds to the app (having proper images), but did Google really think they would get every artist photo right for everyone using this app? What happens when artists have the same, similar, or less known names? The art that is provided ends up wrong or just a picture of one random album. IMHO this was poorly implemented and there should be a way to change the artist art yourself.
- No more batch style "Choose On-Device Music" option? Now if you want to save music on your device it has to be done one at a time, and you can't even cache everything from one artist! It has to be done album by album or song by song. I'm not sure if there is a reason for this change but it makes no sense to me and it will be functionality missed.
