Looking for a low end smartphone ? Choose Windows Phone...for your own sanity !

So I have no shame in admitting I'm not a full time Windows Phone user. I happily use an iPhone 4 with Microsoft services on that. Bing, Outlook.com, Skydrive...you name it, I probably use it. But this isn't the point of this post.

At the start on the week, disaster happened, my iPhone decided it was going to go swimming. At first it seemed to be working, but eventually it just shut itself down and stuck itself in DFU mode permanently. My back-up device is a low end Android device, the HTC Desire C running Android 4.0 ICS. I'm not knocking Android as an OS. It's definitely matured over the years, has great app selection and works great on some high end devices. I'm not its biggest fan, but I do respect it.

So off I went on my merry way using this little HTC device as my sole device. My god, it has got to have been the most frustrating experience I've ever had with a phone. I've never used something so sluggish, low quality and just overall crappy in my life. I give you the fact that its cheap, but still, the screen quality is abysmal, it's speed is ridiculously slow and practically everything looks and feels wrong.

I began to think about how Windows Phones in the same category are. I've owned Windows Phone devices in the past, again budget ones and I must say I was always impressed. They were extremely zippy, app quality was nearly always superb (albeit some apps missing but none that I overly missed) and they gave a really enjoyable experience. It's this category I think Windows Phone really needs to be targeted at, the consumers who want a 'cheap' device that gives great performance. Low end android devices just don't cut it, yes there are more apps, but the phones are so slow you probably couldn't use most of them.

My iPhone is now working again, so I can go back to normal, but there's one thing I'll be doing as soon as I can...replacing that HTC Desire C with a decent low cost Windows Phone.
