Premiere CS6 on a MacBook Air?
I'm attending univeristy next year for Video Production after completing a two-year Digital Media course through a trade program in high school. I've grown used to using the Creative Suite line of products (Photoshop, Premiere, After Effects, Flash, etc). For school, I want a light laptop to replace my current 2011 15" MacBook Pro. My current laptop has the following specs:
- 2nd gen quad-core Intel Core i7 clocked at 2.0ghz.
- 4gb RAM
- 256mb graphics (It's an AMD Radeon HD 6490, which, from what I understand, isn't an amazing chip)
So, if I were to buy a MacBook Air, I'd spec it out completely:
- 512gb SSD
- 8gb RAM
- 1.7ghz dual-core Haswell
- Integrated graphics instead of dedicated
How does this compare to my current set-up? Lately, my MacBook Pro has been lagging like crazy while doing pretty simple things (while trying to write this, I was using Burn to convert an MPEG to a MPG for burning. The only other opened program was Safari, and trying to scroll down a webpage was slow as hell). With college next year, the battery life and lightness is important to me. I thought I would get the Retina MBP, but I'm not sure I want to pay that much for the 15 inch or deal with the graphics problems in the 13".
I've heard both sides on the issue of using video and photo software - Nilay said don't, but a comment or two in his review said it worked fine.
