Warner Bros. has just released the first trailer for the The Lego Movie, an upcoming film based on the popular building blocks. Directed by Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs' Phil Lord and Chris Miller, the movie thrusts an ordinary Lego figure, mistakenly identified as "the MasterBuilder," into a quest to stop an evil tyrant from gluing the Lego universe together. As is customary for big-budget animations, a lot of talent is signed up to voice the characters, including Morgan Freeman, Will Ferrell, Alison Brie, Liam Neeson, and Will Arnett.

Opening with a playful bait-and-switch for Avengers 2, the trailer is strong, and it's reassuring that the characters seem to be restricted to "realistic" Lego movement, rather than fluidly animated. The Lego Movie is currently penciled for a February 2014 release.
