At its Galaxy & Ativ event in London, Samsung announced new Ativ Book 9 Plus and Ativ Book 9 Lite ultrathin Windows 8 ultrabooks. The Ativ Book 9 Plus offers a 13.3-inch 3200 x 1800 qHD+ multi-touch display and is powered by Intel's Core i5 and i7 ULT Haswell processors (depending on the model), which offer a full 12 hours of battery life. It also supports up to 8GB of RAM, Intel HD Graphics 4400, a 256GB SSD, and is 13.6mm at its thickest point. That makes it thinner than Apple's MacBook Air, although we didn't think it looked significantly thinner in person. Weighing just 1.39kg, the Book 9 Plus boasts a cold boot time of less than six seconds and is available only in Ash Black.
The Book 9 Lite features a 13.3-inch 1366 x 768 touch display and is powered by an AMD A6 quad-core chip offering 8.5 hours on a full charge. The ultrabook includes 4GB RAM, 256GB SSD, and comes in Ash Black and white variants. The company will also bundle its new SideSync software on both devices, allowing users to drag and drop file transfers between Galaxy smartphones and the desktop. Samsung is yet to announce availability or pricing for the new Book 9 ultrabooks; we have contacted the company for more information.
