Google Maps--1 step forward, 2 steps back...
...and trips over their shoelaces along the way.
Daniel Graf, director for Google Maps, tells us that the company's engineers were just as unhappy with the loss of the feature as we were

If they were unhappy with it, why the hell did they take it out?
"We gave you a great product, but we took out a good feature, and believe us, we didn't want to take it out, so instead, we put it back in, but it's hidden."
Right when they're making progress, they fix what wasn't broken. They did the same thing with image search for Google Now, except there is no alternative solution in that case. Does anyone else feel that Google's shift towards focusing more on how their apps look is affecting how their apps function?
