ABC's much-anticipated TV series Marvel's Agents of SHIELD will premiere on Tuesday September 24th at 8PM ET. The series will follow the exploits of Clark Gregg's SHIELD Agent Coulson, who featured in many of the recent Marvel movies such as the Iron Man series, Thor, and The Avengers, as he leads a team investigating and tracking down superheroes. The pilot episode will be directed and co-written by Joss Whedon alongside his brother Jed and Maurissa Tancharoen, who both collaborated on Whedon's Dollhouse.

Little is known about the plot of the pilot or the series in general, not least how Agent Coulson, who appeared to die in The Avengers, is still alive and well and starring in a spin-off series. The trailer from the official series unveil back in May shows Coulson explaining SHIELD's purpose to a rookie agent, and also features actor J. August Richards, who starred in Whedon's Buffy spin-off Angel, as an unnamed superhero.
