Dell Precision M3800 HiDPI workstation looks incredible
According to recent leaks, it looks like Dell is coming up with a true workstation competitor for the Retina Macbook Pro, which is significant since the Kirabook and other HiDPI PCs have been using low-voltage processors. The specs (via the Engadget link) sound pretty remarkable:
An Intel Core i7-4702MQ (Haswell) processor will reportedly power the M3800, with a 2GB NVIDIA Quadro K1100M GPU taking care of graphics. It's expected to come with up to 16GB of RAM, a 1TB hard driveor 512MB SSD and two options for the 15.6-inch screen: a 3,200 x 1,800 resolution or a 1080p panel as the base option. The workstation is said to measure 18mm (around 0.7 inches) at its thickest point, and tip the scales at 2kg (4.4 pounds).
The rMBP is currently not available with a Quadro or FirePro option, so for professionals using high-end CAD or video editing software this is a huge plus. And the resolution makes for pixel-doubled 1600x900 which is a great working resolution.
It even matches the rMBP on thickness and weight! If this leak is true, it sounds like a market leader for sure.
