Back to school feature - quite heavy

The Verge school feature is excellent, great images and insight with great design, but 5MB of images really affects the performance. I would really like to see Vox introduce a responsive image loading service, allowing lower resolution images to load faster and improve scrolling performance. The fonts used are also a significant part of the page weight, though still only half the size of those massive 700kb images.

It would good to see how you came to the decision of what was acceptable performance in terms of page size and loading times, versus the design and UX of the page.
