Android widgets seem pretty useless

As I understand it, the point of the widgets is to have more glanceable information.

But, on N4 apps load in a split second. So no time wasted by opening the app.

Moreover, the notification system has become quite impressive on Android (little bubbles that appear for facebook notifications), and the detailed notifications drop down, shows more information than the widgets.

There's also the battery issue, it seems widgets are draining the battery faster.

The widgets don't follow a common design, so they make the interface look hacked together. I only put the power management widget and the eyes in the sky widget but all the others seem pointless. I use only one screen and a half with my useful apps and those 2 widgets.

In my opinion, to be done well, widgets should be done at the os level so that they share design principles and are well integrated.
