A "Dying Microsoft"

Why do people seem to think that Microsoft needs "fixing", that it's a mess? A quick search for Microsoft on Wikipedia shows that they have been among the top 10 most valuable companies in the world since 1998, consistently, except for one quarter in 2012. Google on the other hand has never in their history been on this list. I'm no economics genius and I don't know how those things work. Of course, there is the future, Google can outgrow Microsoft. But Microsoft is growing too! Why do we see Google growth as a no brainer but Microsoft as having a steep hill to climb in order to catch up with Google? Google' s most popular services for the last 5 years have been; search, mail, android and more recently you tube. In those same years they have tried so many other things that haven't gained mainstream appeal; Google+, chrome os, chromebook pixel, nexus phones, Google keep, Google music and I'm sure there are many others. Their most exciting upcoming products are glass and self driving cars, oh, and also balloon internet or internet balloon? Whatever, it's like man-bear pig or pig-bear man or bear-pig man..... An increasing market share for wp, search on 8.1, windows on ARM, improvements to Bing and outlook could all spell trouble for Google. I'm not saying they will, but they could. Just as some think chrome books and chrome os are a threat to windows pc's and windows as an operating system. This is not to stir up a flame war. I just like perspective. I like it when things are put into context. To me, it seems like people look at things from one angle and completely disregard all other angles. I don't know if this is intentional or accidental. I was inspired to write this post by the recent trend of others making posts about who they think would "fix" the dying Microsoft.
