Do these things bother you?

Hey everyone,

So I read an article by a long-time Android user and designer Steven Wittens. You can find it here:

He talks a lot about some gripes he has with Android and some problems that I think might affect me, the biggest being an inability to raise the volume without interruption. I would have liked to use an N4 for this, but it's pushed my toward the iPhone 5. It's really a big deal for me.

The apparent "choose network" dialog also has me worried. I want an OS that doesn't always force me to make a decision on something I'm not knowledgeable about. Are any of these two things an actual, common problem? Or are they just anomalies?
