I'll start by saying that I'm an android user and I like big phones. I got the galaxy note right when it came out, then the note 2 and then the Galaxy mega. I'm not here to troll, just to have a discussion. Forget about specs, features, apps etc. I just want to talk about screen size. Why, Apple why?
Yes, there are many people who like the Iphone's size. It fits very well in your hand and it's very easy to use with one hand. But many other people have realized that the pros of a bigger screen far outweigh the cons. Most people use their phones for videos, games and surfing the web all of which are much better with a bigger screen. Even other things like texting, emails and just using a keyboard are better with a bigger screen.
Some people like a 4.5 inch screen or 4.7, they like to call it a sweet spot. Or, you get a little bigger and you start, little by little, to lose one handed use, but of course, everything else begins to shine. The new Galaxy note is 5.7, but there are other phone that are getting even bigger.
I know so many iphone users would like a bigger screen. Many of them tell me. They stick with the iphone for this reason, or that, but they would love a bigger screen. Would it have killed apple to make a bigger phone. And don't tell me about brand dilution because they just came out with 2 new phones and one is just lower end and a hundred dollars cheaper.
The perfect strategy would have been a 4 a 5 and a 6 inch phone. The ads pretty much write themselves. They would kill. So simple. People who want a very manageable phone can go with the 4, people who want the bigger screen for actually using their smartphone can go with the 6 and I think many would probably go with 5.
Who knows, maybe next time. But what you've gotta love about apple is. It wont be until next year that apple decides you're ready for a bigger screen.
