Nexus 7 (2013) - Owners' Discussion
I'm kind of stealing this idea from Notebookreview's forums (where owner's threads are common), but here's a place to just talk about your Nexus 7 (2013). Are you having issues? Have tips/tricks/advice? Want to pick out a case? How do you feel about your Nexus 7? Feel like posting a user review? Feel free to post anything about or related to the Nexus 7, pretty much, as long as you actually own (or have owned) the device and have experience with it. I also hope this would be an aid to those considering buying a 2013 Nexus 7.
I've had my Nexus 7 for about three days and coming from the 2012 Nexus 7, it's blown me away. The screen is downright amazing - I've never used a high-ppi ("retina") screen this large, and both the sheer crispness of that 323ppi and the color rendition of the screen are amazing. I use mine's mostly for reading textbooks, and while the text is a little small for that purpose, it is crisp and readable (and much better looking than on the 2012 Nexus 7). The thin profile and the soft-touch coating feel very nice in hand, and IMO, the all black looks very classy. Standby battery life is excellent (I haven't used it enough to gauge active battery life). The speakers are decent if the music isn't bassy.
That being said, the camera definitely could be better (q̶u̶i̶t̶e̶ ̶n̶o̶i̶s̶y̶,̶ ̶v̶e̶r̶y̶ ̶l̶a̶c̶k̶i̶n̶g̶ ̶i̶n̶ ̶f̶i̶n̶e̶ ̶d̶e̶t̶a̶i̶l̶, and lacking in dynamic range) , and the power/volume buttons are a bit mushy and also hard to press since they're on at quite an angle. I also hate the 4.2/4.3 notification drawer implementation on tablets, one of the reasons I've always kept my 2012 Nexus 7 on 4.1.
I'm running it both caseless and without a screen protector. I shove it into a foam-lined pocket in my laptop bag, and while it's been fine so far, I am a little hesitant about wear and damage.
I've also been heavily considering flashing the CyanogenMod 10.2 nightlies, but I don't want to risk my warranty yet.
So what are your own thoughts on your Nexus 7 2013?
EDIT: The camera is actually fairly decent in good light.
