Help: Bizarre W8.1 Freezes

The last time I used my laptop on Saturday everything was working perfectly fine. When I went to turn it on Sunday it would work for a couple of minutes and then freeze up. When I press cntrl + alt + del, the screen just goes black but I am still able to move the mouse cursor around. The only way it turns off is if I do a hard reset, but when booting again I do not get the error screen, it just starts normal. I have tried everything and nothing seems to work. I have not installed, updated, or downloaded anything in the past couple of days so everything is the same. Windows 8.1 normally boots up rather quickly but for some reason it's lagging with this issue. Is anyone else experiencing such issues or have a fix for this?? I have been trying to fix it since 3 am, at work now and still can't get this issue out of my head. I ran the troubleshooter, Windows Defender, and Disk Cleanup and all came back fine.
