Anyone who has an overflowing "Starred" Gmail folder will be thrilled to hear that they will soon be able to star their favorite contacts, too. Google announced today that Gmail users can now star their favorite contacts, helping them keep track of the people they email most. Just like important messages, starred contacts will go straight into their own dedicated folder. Android users get the extra perk of having starred contacts synced to their Favorites section across desktop and mobile devices.

The feature is rolling out slowly, so all users won't see it immediately. Given that starred emails are one of the most recognizable Gmail features, it's surprising Google didn't add this feature sooner — Microsoft's Outlook mail service has had it for months, so we're glad to see Gmail add this feature for its users.
