iPhone - Water Damage Repair
Hey Guys. I just wanted to shout this out.
It have just repaired an old water damaged iPhone 4. And that for less than 35 bucks
So heres the story.
My father's iphone 4 got into the washing machine by accident. He then started disassembling the phone but haven't tried to fix it in any way. This happened over a year ago.
I got my fingers on it a few weeks ago and thought that maybe there's the chance to fix it.
So I started researching the web to find out what parts of the phone are most likely damaged after contact with water.
The LCD and probably the battery.
The next step was that I assembled every part of the phone that has been left and I got so far that my Mac recognised the phone in iTunes. But only in DFU mode. After trying to restore the phone I got iTunes Error 2001 which is telling me that something is wrong with the USB or any other connection between the iPhone and the mac.
After that I was pretty sure the the battery is broken in some way.
I also saw that one cable from the LCD was broken. And I separated the glass from the LCD and saw sort of a water coating over the LCD.
Right the next day I started looking up Screen+LCD and a new battery on Amazon. And found two for a excellent price.
I got a full Touchscreen/Digitizer/LCD for 10$ (which also included a back cover and a new home button)
Battery for about 15$
And I also bought a set of screws since a lot of them got lost while the first disassemble. For 3$
Today I came home from school. All parts have been delivered and I started assembling the iPhone.
After good 2 hours I was done with all those pesky small screws.
With sweaty shacky hands i pressed the power button and was relieved to see the apple logo shining up.
First I did was connecting it to iTunes. Did a restore. Synced some music. Worked perfectly fine.
And now it's happily resting in my docking station. Which has the old 30pin Connector so I wasn't able to use it with my iPhone 5. And I have to say. One of the only reasons why I wanted to fix the old iPhone was actually the Docking station.
Because now. I can finally wake up to my favourite music every morning.
So if your iPhone got into contact with water and your maybe already out of the warranty. Get onto Amazon, buy a Touchscreen/LCD and a new battery and try fixing it by yourself. I also read online that water damage can be repaired around 90% when changing the LCD and the battery.
