I went from Windows 8.1 back to 7 - one man's horror story

I will skip a lot of details in order to get to the point, but a series of events involving a power surge two weeks ago caused my Windows 8.1 PC to crash. It would no longer boot up and without my knowledge, HP customer service had my wife run recovery and lose everything (that's a whole other story). After running recovery, we were back on Windows7, the operating system on the PC when we bought it.

Let me just say that I cannot understand why anyone in their right mind would want to go from Windows 8.1 back to Windows 7. For starters, 8.1 is much much faster. Also, Windows 7 is hideous compared to 8.1. Booting straight to the desktop just feels weird now. If I need to run something on the desktop, I can still do it in 8.1, but the less I see that ugly desktop the better. Where are my live tiles? Where is my Xbox Music? Where is my weather app?

Am I the only one that feels this way? Seriously, I cannot believe HP would advertise Windows 7 being available again. In my mind, there is no comparison between the two. It's not even close. Let's just say I couldn't get 8.1 back on there fast enough.
