Why isn't Windows 8.1 Update 1...

...just Windows 8.2?

Was there a particular reason why they're adding "Update 1" instead of just iterating the number they have? With Windows 9 coming down the pipeline so soon, it seems sort of superfluous; it's not like there's going to be a Windows 8.6 or whatever. They really should just stick to one convention, for simplicity's sake.

What do you guys think? Is the next update's name just tongue-in-cheek?
