When Hollywood finds a hit, you can be sure that sequels and spin-offs will be quick to follow. Guardians of the Galaxy successfully turned an obscure Marvel comic into the top-grossing film of the year, and now Disney is spinning the movie into its own animated TV show. A sequel to the film is already planned for July 2017.

Little is known about the show, which was announced yesterday at New York Comic Con, though it will directly follow the events in the film. That means the whole gang is back — Peter Quill, Rocket Raccoon, Groot, Gamora, and Drax will return, as will the purple-hued galactic villain, Thanos. You can get a taste for the new series with some test footage, above, and an image, below, obtained by Entertainment Weekly.

The show will air next year on Disney XD, the company's fledgling cable channel that's sought to draw boys aged 6 to 11 with a number of action shows based on box office hits. The channel's most substantial effort has come in the form of Star Wars: Rebels, which premiered earlier this month. It also has animated shows based on the Avengers, the Hulk, and Spider-Man.
