At an event earlier this week, Matt Damon finally confirmed that he'll reprise the role of Jason Bourne in in 2016. Speaking to E! News at a party for Project Greenlight, Damon stated that he'll be reuniting with director Paul Greengrass for the project, with the film hitting theaters the following year. According to the actor, "I just needed [Greengrass] to say yes."

The seemingly unintended announcement confirms an earlier Deadline story that stated Universal Pictures was in talks with both Damon and Greengrass for a fifth installment to the Bourne saga. After 2007's The Bourne Ultimatum, the third in the series overall, Greengrass walked away from the franchise. With Bourne's quest to regain his memories complete, the character, the director felt, was at a creative dead end. 2012's The Bourne Legacy starred Jeremy Renner in an entirely different role and met with a lukewarm critical reception. It's still unclear what new adventures Bourne has ahead of him, but fans can now fully expect a continuation to his story.
