HTML/JavaScript as a first class citizen

Some developers rave about the new html/JavaScript dev environment at Microsoft. But I believe the majority of developers have rejected it so far. I really question why Microsoft needed another development platform. Particularly with all the issues in Win8 and not seeing a significant release on the WinPhone platform for over 1.5 years. Why put resources on building a Javascript/html environment when C# was already widely accepted and praised for its innovation. I just don't get it... seems like such a waste of time and resources when your flagship products are being released half baked!

We still don't have a Metro version of Office.... oh but wait we do have JavaScript/HTML5 to build apps for...what is going on at Microsoft?
