"Native" apps and hyperlinks on mobile OSes (specifically Android)

Hey everyone, just a small question that I stumbled across this morning.

So The Verge posts links to its content on sites like Twitter and Facebook. When I am on my Android phone (HTC One GPe, if that's a variable in this question) and click on the link, it always takes me to the article via Chrome. I have The Verge's app installed, so why does it not open that instead? Is this a current limitation of the operating system or is there a way to do this already?

You may argue that I am seeing their content either way, but if you already have an app installed, then why waste it?
