While over seven million Playstation 4 units have been sold, the upcoming v1.70 release will be the console's first major system software update. Sony Computer Entertainment is introducing a video editor application called SHAREfactory with the next update. SHAREfactory will allow PS4 owners to stitch together gameplay footage and customize them with text, transitions, filters and so forth. Users will also be able to add video commentary with the help of the PlayStation Camera and import their own music for use. SHAREfactory videos can be shared through Facebook or exported to an external USB storage device.

The v1.70 update also includes the ability to switch off HDCP to allow for direct video capture and the removal of default saves for both screenshots and video clips. Additionally, the update will ship with an auto pre-download feature that, when enabled, will pre-download selected pre-ordered games up to days in advance. Sony Computer Entertainment has not revealed a date for the v1.70 update.
