Android TV has to be about the games
Yes, we all know that it probably won't be a AAA gaming platform like the PS4 and Xbone; but it doesn't really have to be.
Amazon have already shown their hand and it is on the right track. Look at the way mobile gaming has changed the gaming landscape: once, mobile gaming was about gameboy style, dedicated devices; now, those are a niche and the money is to be made on shorter, viral games that suit the casual gamer. Something similar could happen with set-top boxes and consoles. I'm not predicting the demise of PS4-style consoles, but rather the emergence of a whole new market that has hitherto failed to find its feet.
Google have been putting a lot of effort into providing tools for games developers to do something impressive on the Android OS. Combining GoogleNow-style media predictions with chromecast capabilities would be good: but to combine it with gaming would not only help Android TV, but would also feed back into regular Android gaming as developers saw how much more important gaming would become to the ecosystem.
So, what do you think? Will Android TV be like Fire TV not only in appearance, but also in function? Or will Google have another trick up their sleeve to make their vision stand out?
