The Fallacy Of Android-First (repost)
I just read this article which I thought was very interesting (and posted it in Apple Core instead of Googleplex for fear of being called a troll, blind denial, abuse etc).
It's an account from a co-founder of a startup called Emu, discussing why they decided to develop for Android first, and why they have now ditched Android and switched to developing for iOS. I found it interesting as one of the reasons I switched to the iPhone from Android (when the 5S came out) was because iOS has superior apps, and often gets them before Android (although not as much as before).
In late 2012, we decided to launch Emu on Android first. It went against the conventional wisdom at the time, but we saw a real advantage. Sixteen months later, we’re back on iOS: Emu for iPhone launched on April 2. Here’s why Android didn’t work out for us and why you should think carefully before going Android-first.
