SP3 confirmed with larger screen/smaller bezel; i7 variants; prices
For the Surface Pro 3, which is now confirmed as being a real device, there will be five versions offered with varying pricing and configurations:
- i3-4GB RAM-64GB - $799
- i5-4GB RAM-128GB - $999
- i5-8GB RAM-256GB - $1299
- i7-8GB RAM-256GB - $1549
- i7-8GB RAM-512GB - $1949
As mentioned above, there will also be new Type covers, though it's not known what – if anything – is new about them. Considering the Surface Pro 3 is expected to be a larger device (possibly in the 12 inch range), it would make sense that large Type covers would be required. Those covers will come in the following colors:
- Red (Microsoft Exclusive, possibly limited to Microsoft Stores)
Other details about the Surface Pro 3 hint at a smaller bezel, larger screen size and the Windows button being located on the vertical side, as opposed to horizontal. Unfortunately details about weight, battery life, screen size and dimensions, are not known.
Interesting, especially the speculations about the larger version. Now, I once was told, that the covers will work at least for 3 iterations, so I'm still hoping for these versions to have the same dimensions as usual, but with the smaller bezels and therefore bigger screen. What's your take on this?
The fastet version is quite expensive, do you guys think that an i7 can be appropriately cooled without changing the body of the device? And now that they'll be offering an i7 version -- where are the 16GB of RAM? :D
What's your take on the Windows button positioned on the side of the screen? Good or bad? I think it could be a good call, because it'll be more accessible, when holding the device in your hands. Also, you won't accidently touch it, when working with the pen and your palm is on the glass.
