Sources at Reuters say that Amazon is preparing to launch a marketplace for local businesses. While details are currently thin, the new service is said to take aim at Yelp and Angie's List, both of which offer listings and ratings for services like movers, handymen, and babysitters. If the rumors prove true, the move shows Amazon building on its already growing services business. AmazonFresh, the company's grocery delivery service, is already expected to launch in 20 new markets this year. What's more, the e-commerce giant may be able to extend the reach of its Payments platform to local vendors in this new marketplace, which expanded only yesterday. We've reached out to Amazon for comment.
