Android (The Brand)

When you pick up a device you should immediately know who makes it. There are certain characteristics and traits that will ultimately give the brand away. When a consumer recognizes this product and who makes it you have successfully established a brand.

I believe that's exactly Googles latest mission with the naming scheme of all it's new product releases.

-Android One

-Android Wear

-Android Auto

-Android TV

ALL products are caring over some of the same UI elements and design. Before, think back years, and even sometimes still today people will pick up a product that runs Android and would have no clue. For example; Galaxy line of devices, sure no people realize that it's ran on Android but there are still some who are clueless. A simple "Powered by Android" is not enough and Google knows that. I applaud Google for taking over their band and not using silly names. Look how successful the Google Play brand has become. Advertising plays a huge role in getting the mind share for your brand across to many and I hope Google finds a way to advertise the way Samsung does. It's not like they can't afford it. Word of mouth is still the most powerful form of advertisement and that takes mind share. I think Googles branding is a step in the right direction, because again;

When you pick up a device you should immediately know who makes it. There are certain characteristics and traits that will ultimately give the brand away. When a consumer recognizes this product and who makes it you have successfully established a brand.
