Aereo adds Chromecast support to its Android app

Aereo just updated its Android app with support for Google's Chromecast, a few days later than the May 29th target it was initially aiming for. The new feature makes it incredibly easy for Android users to stream network programming on the TV without a cable subscription. To be clear, this has always been possible (and free) if you've got an antenna hooked up to your HDTV, but with Aereo you won't need any extra hardware. And you'll also be able to pause and rewind live TV or play back your cloud DVR recordings.

If nothing else — and much to the chagrin of the networks — it means you can watch Aereo just about anywhere: on your phone, tablet, web browser, and now in the living room. The company also has an app available for Roku set-top boxes. Aereo remains locked in a battle with broadcasters in the US Supreme Court; the innovative app's survival likely depends on a favorable outcome.
