is the inclusion of ports holding back the Surface?

Is the inclusion of USB and Displayport ports limiting the thinness and heat profile of the Surface devices?

I know that pro devices have a TDP profile based on the Intel chips that they use, but the hard limit on thinness even with a broadwell will be the height of those ports.

Because Apple doesn't use those ports or chipsets, they have fewer limitations on thinness and are limited only by engineering prowess and physics.

Should future non pro Surface devices drop the ports and go full tablet?
