Prostate Cancer Foundation returns funds raised in the wake of Celebgate

Reddit users raised more than $5,000 for the Prostate Cancer Foundation earlier today, but the organization doesn't want a dime. The reasoning? The money was raised on r/TheFappening, the now-infamous section of Reddit where more than 100 celebrity nude photos, the result of an iCloud hack electronic break-in (or maybe many iCloud electronic break-ins), were widely distributed.

Here's the joke: masturbation may reduce the risk of prostate cancer. If you downloaded or circulated the photos, you can atone by donating to this relevant charity. Soon, "Reddit The Fappening" was the top donor on PCF's leaderboard.

No thanks, the PCF said in response:

A post appeared on Reddit late Monday afternoon, September 1, 2014. A Reddit user directed other Reddit users to make a donation to the Prostate Cancer Foundation without the Foundation’s knowledge. We would never condone raising funds for cancer research in this manner. Out of respect for everyone involved and in keeping with our own standards, we are returning all donations that resulted from this post. The massive photo leak, being referred to by some as #celebgate, has provoked criticism of a number of things including Apple; the mindset that says people should have the right to privacy online unless they happen to be women people want to see naked; the art of sexting; and the art of telling people not to sext. Meanwhile, the crime is only getting skeevier — the leak now appears to have included child pornography.
