iTunes and App Store suffer outages, Apple says 'DNS error' is to blame

After many reports of problems with the iTunes store today, Apple has confirmed that "an internal DNS error" led to hours of difficulties accessing the iOS App Store, Mac App Store, and iBooks Store. Apple's system status website confirmed that the issue spanned from early morning through midday, though not everyone encountered the problem. For those that did, making purchases from iTunes or the app stores proved nearly impossible. "We're working to make all of the services available to customers as soon as possible, and we think everyone for their patience," Apple said in a statement.

iCloud, Game Center, and the iTunes Connect web portal for developers were also affected. Outages were reported both in the US and across the globe, so the issue clearly wasn't limited to a certain geographic region. By 4PM Wednesday, Apple reported that all systems had successfully been restored and should be operating normally.
