That Kurt Cobain solo album you didn't know you were waiting for will be here this summer. In a recent interview with Bedford + Bowery, Brett Morgen, the director of the Cobain doc Montage of Heck, said he has access to a bunch of Kurt's unreleased home recordings and plans to compile them into a full-length album.

"It’s going to really surprise people," Morgen said in the interview. "Just to be clear, it’s not a Nirvana album, it’s just Kurt and you’re going to hear him do things you never expected to come out of him."

More than 200 hours of unreleased recordings

Morgen says the album was culled from over 200 hours of cassette recordings found in Cobain's personal belongings. Though it's not clear what will be on the album, Morgen says the tapes included things like duets with Courtney Love, demo recordings, spoken word stuff, and sound design.

Putting aside for a moment the worthwhile ethical question of releasing the private work of an artist who cannot give consent, this could be an exciting release. And it looks like we only have to wait a few months for find out for sure.
