Facebook might let your friends know when you ignore their party invitations

Read receipts often turn instant messaging into a tactical stealth game, and Facebook is testing an expansion. The Daily Dot reports that the social network is bringing the feature to Events, meaning that hosts will be able to track who has seen their invitations — and who has ignored them. Obviously this will be used to test who's really committed to seeing your face in person.

Facebook rolled out read receipts for Messenger and Groups in 2012, and this is the first expansion of the feature since then. Facebook doesn't let you opt out of read receipts in Messenger or Groups, and The Daily Dot says you won't be able to dodge the feature for Events, either. The feature is just a pilot for now, but like many experiments it could be eventually offered to everyone.
