Pinterest now has 100 million monthly users

Pinterest has crossed a pretty big line: 100 million monthly users. The site announced its milestone this morning, marking the first time that Pinterest has put a number on the size of its user base. While Pinterest seems to see the full 100 million as active users, it also says that only 70 percent of them pin something each month or click through on an item to learn more about it — which is to say that 30 percent of Pinterest's users are more passive. Still, it's a big figure. For comparison, Twitter currently counts 316 million monthly active users. Snapchat hit 100 million this time a year ago, and is now believed to have doubled that.

Growth appears to be strong at Pinterest, too. It tells Quartz that total users doubled in the last 18 months, while international users have doubled in the past year, coming to represent 45 percent of its total base. That's all good news for the site and its investors, who, as of March, were valuing it at $11 billion.
