The new year has brought a sustained campaign of cyberattacks against Ukrainian infrastructure. This week, malware was discovered on networked systems in Ukraine's largest airport, according a new report from Reuters. The malware doesn't appear to have been activated or done any tangible damage to the airport itself. Officials are conducting a thorough security review in the wake of the discovery.

The news comes just two weeks after another digital attack brought down a rural power station in Ukraine, leaving tens of thousands of people without power for several hours. Researchers say that malware samples from the power station attack match the programs discovered on the airport's network, suggesting the same group may be responsible for both attacks.

There are also a number of links tying the attacks to Russia, which supported a separatist uprising in eastern Ukraine last year, although there's been no definitive evidence tying the group to the Russian government itself. After the power plant attack, a number of research firms linked the malware with previous Russia-friendly attacks. The malware discovered at the airport was reportedly being directed by a command-and-control server hosted within Russian borders, although such servers are commonly available for hire.
