Superhero movies have proved that there's nothing like bringing the whole team together to get fans excited, and now, classic Nickelodeon characters are getting the same treatment. According to Deadline, Paramount is making a feature film starring an ensemble of characters from '90s Nickelodeon shows including Rugrats, Ren & Stimpy, Rocko’s Modern Life, Aaahh! Real Monsters, and The Angry Beavers. The project is called NickToons and will reportedly be Paramount's "answer to Who Framed Roger Rabbit" — meaning, perhaps, that we can expect a blend of animation and live action footage.
Napoleon Dynamite's Jared and Jerusha Hess are on board to write and direct
There's no word on a possible release date, but Deadline says husband-and-wife team Jared and Jerusha Hess are in line to write and direct the film, with the Hess's previous credits including cult classic Napoleon Dynamite and Jack Black vehicle Nacho Libre. The film is set to be produced by Mary Parent, who's handled everything from The SpongeBob Movie to The Revenant in recent years, and Deadline notes that Paramount is hoping to start a new franchise with the movie. NickToons will target both young kids and their parents, because, of course, nothing pays like nostalgia.
