Tesla set new quarterly records for vehicle production and deliveries in Q3, according to data released today by the company. The company delivered around 24,500 vehicles, an increase of 70 percent from last quarter when the company fell short of its own delivery projections.

The deliveries this quarter were made up of 15,800 Model S sedans and 8,700 Model X SUVs, with vehicle production rising to 25,185. That’s up 37 percent from Q2’s production of 18,345.

Back in August, Tesla created a new two-year lease program with a lower, $593 per month starting price, as a way to help juice sales before the end of the quarter. We don’t know how popular that program has been, but the company was successful in increasing both sales and production this quarter.

Tesla said in the statement that Q4 deliveries and production should be similar to Q3 "despite Q4 being a shorter quarter and the challenge of delivering vehicles in winter weather over holidays." The company reaffirmed its previous estimate for deliveries of 50,000 vehicles during the second half of the year. An additional 5,500 vehicles were in transit — produced but not delivered — at the end of the quarter.

As it did last quarter, when the news was less positive, Tesla released the numbers on a Sunday afternoon. The company has previously committed to releasing delivery numbers within three days of the end of the quarter.
