Faraday Future, the well-funded electric vehicle startup, is partnering with LG for the lithium-ion battery cells in its upcoming EVs. LG makes batteries for a number of electric vehicles including the 60kWh pack in the Chevy Bolt, which should hit dealers late this year.

LG and Faraday Future have worked to develop a "tailored cell chemistry," according to a press release. It isn’t specified whether this is a custom battery built solely for FF, or if the companies have merely been working on technology together.

"At FF, we are working with world-class suppliers to advance our technological innovations, and we look forward to our relationship with LG Chem as we push towards our vision of future mobility," said Tom Wessner, VP of Global Supply Chain for Faraday Future.

FF is a well-funded, secretive company that has been growing aggressively over the past year, recently passing 1,000 employees. The company has said it plans to spend $1 billion on a US-based factory that will produce electric cars for a non-traditional sales model — possibly a subscription-based autonomous vehicle service.

The company has especially close ties with LeEco, the massive Chinese internet firm that also has ties to Aston Martin and recently bought Vizio.
