Terrence Malick's upcoming documentary, The Voyage of Time, just got a release date — at least in IMAX form. The Film Stage found the date buried in a recent IMAX press release: October 7th, 2016. As The Film Stage points out, a fall release points to a likely premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival or Venice Film Festival.
The premise of The Voyage of Time is an ambitious one: it's about the life and death of the universe. The doc has been described as "a celebration of the earth," a phrase that's simultaneously vague and bold. The movie, which will be scored by the composer Ennio Morricone, will reportedly be released in two forms. First, as a 40-minute IMAX movie narrated by Brad Pitt, and then as a standard feature-length film narrated by Cate Blanchett.
There's no word yet on when the feature version will be released.
