Libratone just announced a bunch of new portable Bluetooth speakers called the One Click, the One Style, and Too. While that sounds like a total of three speakers, the two Ones are too similar to count as two. So One plus the Too makes two: the One, available as the $199 / €199 Click or $179 / €179 Style, and the $149 / €149 Too. Okay, let me explain.

Bluetooth speakers are pretty much a commodity these days. For a given price, you’ll find dozens of indistinguishable speakers that can fill a hotel room with music, or create just the right atmosphere at the beach or park. So why am I telling you about One Too more?

Easy: handles.

I love loops, handles, straps, and hooks on portable speakers. They’re incredibly handy for transport or for hanging music up out of the way. Away from the tiny, inquisitive, Trump-like hands of toddlers, or away from your drunken friends prone to spilling drinks on the picnic table.

I’ve had a Libratone One Click and Too in tow for the past week. Both sound pretty good, on par with similar speakers from other reputable brands. But my favorite is easily the One Click (12 x 4.1 x 20.5 cm and 900g / 2 pounds) with its novel accessory system. The speaker itself is encased in a removable bumper-like frame that creates attachment points for a handle and hook included in the box. Libratone promises more accessories in the future. I was shown renders of suction cups, a bike mount, and a long shoulder strap, for example, which may or may not make it into production.

I also have the smaller Too (21 x 6.5 x 5.9cm, 588g / 1.3 pounds), which I dislike. Not because of the sound — it sounds good, great even for its size. But because my evaluation unit is "Caribbean Green" which is, I believe, the last color you’ll see when standing too close to one of those festering beached whales as it explodes. Fortunately, all the speakers are available in a black or grey option with more colors promised.

Unfortunately, Libratone is still using white status indicator lights on its new speakers which are impossible to read in daylight. I also find the Libratone app (for iOS) finicky to use. Once while testing it showed four speakers (I only had two) and a few times it wouldn’t connect to the speakers at all, crash, or insist I had an old Libratone Loop. Fortunately, the only time you really need to use the app is to pair multiple speakers, which I did successfully most of the time to create a big sounding stereo pair between the One and Too.

As for the One Style… well, I don’t understand why it exists. It’s exactly the same speaker as the One Click but its removable bumper frame has a fixed loop instead of the adapter points. That saves you $20, for some reason, which would be fine, if you had the choice to upgrade to the One Click bumper frame and handle accessories later. Right now you can’t.

Some notable specs shared by the One and Too:

  • Bluetooth 4.1
  • Built-in mic for speakerphone
  • 360-degree sound
  • 12-hour battery
  • splash resistant (IPx4)
  • 3.5-mm aux input

The One Click is available now, while the Too won’t be available until July 1st.
