As if a new Power Rangers movie wasn't grand enough on its own, actor Bryan Cranston announced today on Twitter he will be playing Zordon in the franchise reboot. Known on the show as a giant and slightly opaque floating head, Zordon is a galactic sage, the creator and mentor of the Power Rangers, and the adversary of villain Rita Repulsa, who will be played by Elizabeth Banks. Nearly all of the Rangers are being played by relatively unknown and up-and-coming actors.

This isn't too big of a surprise considering Cranston has a history with the Power Rangers franchise. Before becoming international drug kingpin Walter White and hairy dysfunctional dad Hal Wilkerson, Cranston voiced some of the monsters on the original Power Rangers TV show. Remember Snizzard? Yeah, that was Cranston. Because of his popularity on set, the Blue Ranger was even given the last name Cranston to commemorate the actor's time on the show.

Power Rangers, as the reboot is known, is coming out on March 24th, 2017. It's directed by South African filmmaker Dean Israelite, who directed 2015's found footage sci-fi film Project Almanac. Regardless of the resumes of anyone involved, it's safe to say Cranston as Zordon will make the film worth seeing.
